HELP INDEX

ADD A CHART [ INDEX ]

Here are some handy ways to open a chart in Chart Fu:

  • From the menu, choose "File/Open" and then browse for an image file or a ".chartfu" file if you have already saved an annotated chart with Chart Fu.
  • Drag and drop an image or .chartfu file onto the Chart Fu shortcut.
  • Drag and drop an image or .chartfu file into an empty Chart Fu window.
  • Drag and drop an image directly from a web page onto a running instance of Chart Fu or the Chart Fu shortcut.
  • Use "print screen" to take a snap-shot of a chart.  In Chart Fu, select "File / Paste from Clipboard" or press "Ctl+V" to paste the image.  Once pasted, from the menu choose "Canvas/Crop" to crop off unwanted content from the image.

CROP A CHART [ INDEX ]

  • From the menu, select "Canvas/Crop".  Next, click and drag around the region of the chart that you wish to keep, the area around the selection you make will be cropped off the chart image.
  • After making the selection, you can click and drag the edges of the selection to adjust the size of the area to be cropped.
  • Finally, double-click within the selection to complete the crop.
  • If you don't like the crop, from the menu, select "Canvas/Undo" to undo the cropping.

EXPAND A CHART [ INDEX ]

  • To expand the canvas (i.e. add margins to the chart), from the menu, select "Canvas/Expand Canvas..." and choose the direction in which to expand.
  • You can choose a single direction, for example "Right", to add a margin to the right.  To expand the canvas in all directions, choose "All Directions" from the menu.
  • After expanding, you can crop to adjust the margin.
  • If you don't like the result of the expansion, from the menu, select "Canvas/Undo" to undo the expansion.

When you expand a chart, the color of the expanded region defaults to white. To change the default canvas color:

  • From the menu, select "Canvas/Expand Canvas.../Canvas Color" and choose the method of selecting the color.
  • If you choose "Select Color from Palette", you can choose the color from a standard Windows color selection dialog box.
  • If you choose "Select Color from Canvas", you can choose the color by clicking on it in the canvas / chart. A special cursor with a hovering "swatch" will display -- just move the cursor over the canvas until the desired color is displayed in the swatch, then mouse-click once.

ADD AN ANNOTATION [ INDEX ]

There are two ways to add annotations to a chart:

  • From the menu, choose "Add Annotation" and select the type of annotation to add.  The new annotation will be added to the center of the viewing area.
  • Click an annotation drawing tool from the toolbar on the left edge of the screen.  After choosing a tool, click and drag on the chart.  The annotation will be rendered within the area you select.  The following caveats apply to specific annotation types:
    • 3-Wave Elliot, 5-Wave Elliot and Double Bottoms.  When you start rendering, you must click each point of the annotation.  For example, for 5-wave Elliot Waves, after you've clicked six points, the annotation will auto-complete and fill in the 5 waves.
    • N-Wave Elliot.  Click as many points as you want, however, after the last point, you must right-click to complete the annotation.
    • Cups and Fibonacci.  Click, hold, and drag a "box" over there area where the annotation should be rendered.  When you release the mouse button, the rectangle bounding area will turn into the appropriate annotation.
